Private John J. Hewitt

 

The background of this North Irish Horseman is not known at present.

John Hewitt enlisted in the North Irish Horse between 17 October and 12 December 1913 (No.874 – Later Corps of Hussars No.71142). He embarked for France with A Squadron on 17 August 1914, seeing action on the retreat from Mons and advance to the Aisne.

Hewitt remained with the regiment throughout the war. On 26 February 1919 he was demobilised and transferred to Class Z, Army Reserve.
